This weekend signals the start of a number of local commemorations in the lead up to Remembrance Day, next Wednesday, November 11.

This Saturday, November 7, the Aurora Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (105 Industrial Parkway North) will host their annual Remembrance Day Dinner. Beginning at 6 p.m., tickets are $15 and the event will feature remarks from Det. Gary Miner of the York Regional Police. For more information, contact the Legion at 905-727-9932.

Remembrance services continue this Sunday, November 8, with a traditional Remembrance Sunday Parade and Observance at the Aurora Cenotaph. The Parade begins at Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School at 10.20 a.m., making its way south on Yonge Street to the Cenotaph. Following the service, the public is invited back to the Legion for refreshments.

On Remembrance Day itself, an additional service will be held at the Cenotaph beginning at 10.50 a.m.
