The PeeWee AA Aurora Panthers can claim to be among the top three teams in Ontario’s largest female hockey league.

A romp through the local competition saw the Panthers competing in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League championship last weekend, held at Buckingham Arena in Toronto.

The East finalists were met in a four-team round robin by the Durham West Lightning, Oakville Hornets, and Burlington Barracudas. In two games Friday, a 3 – 2 win over the Lightning and a 2 – 1 loss to the Barracudas had the Panthers in need of a win Saturday morning to advance to the final.

They were matched with a strong Hornets team, and fell 2 – 0 to land a spot in the bronze medal game. It was there that the team rode strong goaltending to a 1 – 0 win, over the Lightning Saturday afternoon.

Abigail Warriner had the game’s only goal, assisted by Mackenzie Zinner and Claire Scholl.
Burlington took the championship 4 – 0 over Oakville.

To reach the championship weekend, the Panthers bested both the Belleville Bearcats and Whitby Wolves in best-of-three series. They swept through both, outscoring Belleville 7 – 1 and Whitby 4 – 0.

Coach Eddy Zinner said he was “truly proud” of his team for their success.

Congratulations to Kiera Dorrian, Hannah Murphy, Larissa Keyes, Teghan MacRae, Chloe Daniels, Jessica Stott, Jill Fenech, Claire DiLosa, Cailey Davis, Sophia Gatzos, Lara Jorgensen, Sammy Bellerby, Katie Malapitan, Christine Latimer, Abigail Warriner, Claire Scholl, and Mackenzie Zinner for a fantastic season.
