Local cadets hit the mark at Provincials

Five local cadets hit the mark in Trenton last week, facing fierce competition at the Regional & National Marksman Championships.

Representing the 2799 Queen’s York Rangers Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, the team came second out of 291 teams from across the Province. Cadet Tyler McKechnie achieved a second Silver Medal for being ranked #2 out of all individual competitors and was consequently selected as a member of Team Ontario for the National Air Rifle Championship.

The cadet marksmanship program is based upon Olympic-style competition, with the focus on teaching cadets the proper use and safe handling of firearms. Air rifle training is an activity that builds confidence, self-discipline and respect through a progressively challenging, gender-neutral recreational sport.
