There was team-building at a local level on Saturday at CREAM, but there is also team-building being conducted at a national level as Canada Basketball selected Aurora’s Andrew Nembhard to the Olympic team’s training camp roster.

Twelve players will be selected from the 21 invitees to compete in Paris next month.

Nembhard is coming off a series of stellar playoff performances with the Indiana Pacers.

The young Pacers, with Nembhard running point guard, lost in the Eastern Conference Final to NBA champion Boston, but the 24-year-old Auroran was a bright light for Indiana.

Most notably, Nembhard scored 32 points, generated 9 assists, and pulled down 4 rebounds in Game 3 versus the Celtics. He put up a double-double in Game 4 by scoring 24 points and dishing out 10 assists against the NBA’s best team.

In the semi-final series-clinching game versus the New York Knicks, the 6’4” former Gonzaga University Bulldog star scored 20 points, distributed six assists, and pulled down five boards to spearhead the upstart Pacers to a Game 7 win on the sport’s biggest stage:  Madison Square Garden. Nembhard is a favorite to make the final roster and will upgrade the national team’s backcourt which is expected to feature an array of NBA stars including Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma Thunder), and R.J. Barrett (Toronto Raptors).
