NEXT GEN VIEWS: If I Had A Million Dollars

Okay, first of all I want to get things straight: a house in Aurora currently costs way too much!
All because of a
crazy hot seller’s market – it is ridiculous how much the average house costs in Aurora. The average house being about 2,500 square feet costs around a million dollars.
That’s exactly what inspired my title – the song “If I Had A Million Dollars” by the Barenaked Ladies. Today’s version of the song could include the lyric, “I could buy a shack in Aurora in the middle of Sheppard’s Bush.”
It is insane how many cool things a million dollars could have bought you in the past – even five years ago: like a yacht, a Lamborghini, and even an 8,000 square foot mansion. But now, you get an average house and maybe a somewhat fancy car. You have no chance at getting a yacht.
I went on Realtor.ca and looked at average size houses in Aurora. The average price, as I said before, was about a million dollars. I then looked at houses in Saskatoon. There were about three houses for sale at just under a million dollars and they were the Prairies’ version of the Taj Mahal.
Down the street from me a house sold for $1.6 million! Here, you sell your house for, say, 1.6 million dollars, then move west and you could be known as the richest person in Saskatoon. So, why not?
I’ve heard of and seen many people do it in the past couple of months. They sell their house for way more money than it’s actually worth and then they rent an apartment or a condo waiting until the housing market crashes. It’s genius! The profit you could make from that if you buy a house of the same size, after the housing market crashes is a lot.
Or you could simply sell your house for a lot of money and buy a mansion after the market crashes.
In both situations, you are gaining a lot! There might be one problem though; if the market doesn’t crash for another 15 years then I’m going to be living in my parent’s basement as an adult.
Math time: I earn $40/month delivering this very newspaper. $1,000,000.00 divided by $40 = 25,000 months = 2083 years before I can afford a house in Aurora.
If only a magic serum existed that could keep me alive to see the day I can purchase my own home in Aurora!
Until then, I should probably find more ways to earn more money because something tells me that my Mom doesn’t want me living in her basement.
