The night the lights went out in Aurora

November 20, 2013   ·   0 Comments

When the lights went out on November 17, I happened to be setting out from the north end of town to the south end.
As most of us know, during a power outage, motorists are to treat any controlled intersection as a four-way stop. As I travelled south on Bathurst Street, I was pleased to see that everyone treated the intersections of Wellington Street and then Kennedy Street appropriately.
At Henderson Drive, I had to turn left. I stopped, put on my turn signal, a moved forward in to the intersection with the way clear. Sadly, four cars in a row, travelling north, ignored the intersection and drove right through without stopping.
One vehicle even flashed their lights at me, as if to say “I am going through.”
Our community is based in part on common decency, unless I missed the memo about the rule changes. Stay safe out there and treat each other well; even in darkness.
