Woman upgraded after domestic assaultBy Brock Weir An Aurora woman has been upgraded to stable condition after a stabbing last week which left her fighting for life. Investigators with the York Regional Police's Integrated Domestic Violence Unit arrested a 39-year-old man in the early hours of Wednesday, September 28. Police responded to a residence near William Graham Drive and St. John's Sideroad following a 911 call. “When officers arrived, they located a man and a woman with injuries,” said Constable Laura Nicolle. “Both people were transported to hospital where the injuries to the woman were deemed to be life-threatening. Investigators have determined the parties were husband and wife and they had a dispute which escalated.” By Monday, however, Constable Nicolle told The Auroran the woman's condition had been upgraded to stable and the accused was slated for a further court appearance on Monday. He has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon. While he remains in custody, he cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, according to Police. “York Regional Police is committed to investigating all incidents related to domestic violence and providing assistance to victims,” said Constable Nicolle. “Investigators urge anyone who is being abused, or is aware of abuse occurring, to contact police.” They ask anyone with information to contact the YRP's Integrated Domestic Violence Unit by calling 1-866-846-5423 x6716, or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS. “We have done canvasses of the area and the accused has been charged, but we would always be open to additional information if there is any,” said Constable Nicolle. |
